The Details

I began working with applied foils in the mid ‘90s and have employed this medium in several decorative pieces since. The colour relationships between gold, silver, copper and brass foils are very satisfying, especially when I use them to create a randomness, easily done considering the gauzy delicacy of the foils.

“Eye toward the future” was created in January of 2000, its monolithic eye looking boldly toward the next century, bringing experience from the past.

20” x 17” x 6 “, its figured bigleaf maple heritage is revealed, supported by its ebonized roots on brass posts. The antiqued 22k gold leafed central bowl is surrounded by a ring of gold, silver and copper foils randomly applied which is in turn framed by a broad ebonized, radial carved field.

It is valued at $1800.00 and a prized part of my permanent collection
